Comparison
Inlinr vs WakaTime
We built Inlinr because WakaTime does not answer two questions we needed: how much of this code did an assistant write, and what do I invoice for it. It answers plenty of others very well, and it has been doing so since 2013.
Choose WakaTime if
- · Your editor is not VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf or Claude Code.
- · You want to self-host — Wakapi is a real option, we have none.
- · Ten years of continuous operation matters more than the newer features.
Automatic editor tracking
BothBoth send heartbeats from the editor and compute duration at read time. Same idea, same 15-minute idle rule.
Editors supported
WakaTimeWakaTime has 50+ plugins and a decade of coverage. Inlinr has VS Code and its forks, plus Claude Code. If you live in Emacs or Xcode, this decides it.
Track record
WakaTimeWakaTime has been running since 2013. Inlinr is new. That is a real reason to choose them for something you cannot afford to lose.
AI-tool attribution
InlinrWhich assistant wrote what, per project — and only when there is evidence of an edit, not because an extension is installed.
Token counts and cost
InlinrInput, output and cache components counted separately, because they bill at different rates.
Manual entries
InlinrMeetings, calls and reviews alongside coding time. A freelance day is not only the editor.
Hourly rates and invoicing
InlinrTime-versioned rates, so raising your rate never rewrites past invoices.
Client share links
InlinrA read-only report you choose the contents of, optionally PIN-gated.
Team rollups
BothBoth aggregate across a team. Inlinr bounds each member's contribution to the period they were actually on the team.
Open source
NeitherWakaTime's plugins are open, its server is not. Inlinr's plugins are open, its server is not. Same shape.
Self-hosting
WakaTimeWakapi is a compatible open-source server you can run yourself. Inlinr has no equivalent and none planned.
Coming from WakaTime
Inlinr imports a WakaTime export, so your history comes with you rather than starting from zero. Nothing has to be switched off on their side first — running both for a couple of weeks is a reasonable way to decide.
