Open source

What runs on your machine is open

Everything you install to use Inlinr is published under the BSD-3-Clause licence, so you can read exactly what leaves your machine before it does. The service at inlinr.com — ingest, dashboard, billing — is closed source and is not offered for self-hosting.

You can

  • Read, fork and modify the plugins and the CLI
  • Send a pull request to any of them
  • Write and publish your own plugin against the API
  • Package them for your distribution

Not offered

  • The server's source code
  • A self-hosted edition
  • Use of the Inlinr name for a fork

Community plugins

None yet. JetBrains, Neovim and Zed already work through their WakaTime plugin, without AI attribution. A native plugin is welcome, and the ingest API is everything a plugin needs. Calling the CLI instead of the API gets you sign-in, the offline queue and retries for free. A plugin that follows these rules gets listed here:

  1. 1Sign people in with the device flow, so each install gets its own revocable token. Never ask anyone to paste a token.
  2. 2Send file paths, languages and line counts. Never file contents, prompts or responses.
  3. 3Set plugin to your name and version, so a bug report can say which plugin sent a beat.
  4. 4Only set ai_tool when your plugin has evidence an assistant made the edit. An installed extension is not evidence.
  5. 5Queue beats while offline and send them in batches of up to 1000.

Anything that touches other people's data goes to support@inlinr.com, not to a public issue.

Read it, then install it

Free for solo use. Sign in with GitHub, install the extension or the Claude Code plugin, and your first beats show up within a minute.
